Our 7 year old son is bright. He taught himself to read at 2, and could count to 100. So when we sent him to school at 4, they tested him… sure enough, they said “He’s bright!” Unfortunately, we are not rich, we’re not completely poor either mind you, but we make collectively somewhere around two thirds the national income average. He’s can work on a 5th grad level. He’s in 3rd grade but it’s still too easy. He started kindergarten at 4 and skipped 2nd grade. He at least gets a pull out twice a week and works with 5th graders.I would like to remind you, he’s 7.
Image it was the other way and he needed extra help, and they just left him to stew in his own juices? It’s the same thing, I am surprised he doesn’t go nuts.
There is a private school in our area that can better meet his needs. But there tuition is about half our yearly income. We need money to educate him. It’s a great opportunity for him and can lead him to a better college, a more fulfilled life.
We want our son to go to a school that can teach him at his intellectual level, while still understanding
that he is a little boy. Currently the school district we live in can’t really do that, although I do have to
say that his school has made a herculean effort to do so. It still doesn’t really cut the mustard, so to
speak.
He has qualified for classes through Johns Hopkins Center for talented youth. While we will qualify for
the financial aid, he can only take one course. We would like him to take all the courses that are available to him.
Can you help? Every little bit helps!
