Bowie Surgery Fund

By Help_Bowie (add to contacts)
August 3rd UPDATE! Thank you so much for your support! Last night on August 2, we took Bowie to Imperial Mo to recieve a second opinion of his current condition and needs. At the reccomendation of the vet, Bowie will not be undergoing surgery at this time. Bowie appears to be healing well on his own, however we will be following up with some x-rays soon to check his recovery. A surgery may be needed down the road, but at this time he is doing well! Donations will be made to organizations all across the country, who assist families with sittuations just like Bowie's:) If you have not already read Bowie's story from the North County Journal today (August 1st) you can read it online at www.northcountyjournal.stltoday.com Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us On Friday July 13th 2007,our dog Bowie was involved in a hit and run accident at approximitly eight pm in Florissant Mo. Despite his small size (seven pounds) Bowie miraculously survived the accident with a broken pelvis. Since the accident, Bowie has been seen at Animal Emergency Clinic in Bridgeton Missouri, as well as receiving a referral to a specialist at UM-Columbia Veterinary Teaching hospital from his local veterinarian(Paw Patch Animal Hospital in Florissant). Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us Bowie's surgury will (eventually) be done at the University of Missouri Columbia Veterinary Teaching Hospital. However, Due to the hardships our family is experiencing, the cost involved for Bowie’s surgery greatly exceeds our resources. The estimated cost of Bowies surgery is nearly $3000.00, not including his post operation visit, pain medication etc... Currently Bowie is undergoing conservative management at home combined with pain medications, and lots of love and care until the funding is made available for him to have the surgery that he so desperatly needs. Every little bit helps:) We greatly appreciate your support! Donations are also being accepted by mail to the following address: MU Veterinary Teaching Hospital Attention Jodie Beetem C/O Bowie Case #: #376416 379 E. This site has been viewed over 470 times already...yet only $255 has been raised. If 470 people gave just $5 each, that would be over $2,300 already!! I don't know these people or this dog, but I have two of my own...I'd be devasted if one of them needed help, but i couldn't afford it. Let's see if we can help this lil' guy!!

P.S. They only need $1,800 to get Bowie into surgery...that's 360 people to give $5!!!

I'm really disappointed that over 500 people have viewed this post and only 10 have donated. Come on everyone have a heart. Just think if it was your dog and you needed the money. Wouldn't you be happy if others helped.

I'm with Faithwolf. It is very sad...500 people at $5 would have them almost at their goal, and at least starting the surgery. If people are worried that this is a scam or something (which I highly doubt it is)...just think of it this way...If it is, you only lost a little money and Karma will catch up to the scammer. I know money is very tight for some people, and I understand and respect that...but, I think most people (like myself) spend a lot more than $5-$20 in one week on things they don't even need. Consider passing on whatever that thing you don't really need is, and instead help someone in need.

P.S. In case anyone wondered...I did donate...I just didn't set up a username until after making my contribution (because I wanted to leave a comment). I would never encourage that which I don't practice.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I had came across Bowie's story on Craigslist in Saint louis and I decided to send the story on to people in my email address book. Well late last night I recieved a response to my email from my vet. She says that she saw Bowie last night and said he is doing well and at this moment won't need surgery. She said maybe later down the road he may need hip surgery but at this point he is recovering well. Just wanted to give an update!

I viewed this site, but had already made a donation outside of the site. Maybe some of the other people who viewed had done the same.
